Fysisch-chemische eigenschappen: Kleurloze of lichtgele vloeistof, oplosbaar in water, licht oplosbaar in ethanol en ether, onoplosbaar in esters en aromatische oplosmiddelen. Deze oplossing is niet stabiel, maar zal niet in de lucht bederven.

Gebruikt als grondstof voor methylvanilline en ethylvanilline in de smaakstoffenindustrie; gebruikt als tussenproduct voor atenolol, D-hydroxybenzeenglycine, breedspectrumantibiotica, amoxicilline (oraal ingenomen), acetofenon, aminozuren, enz. Gebruikt als tussenproduct voor vernis, kleurstoffen, kunststoffen, landbouwchemicaliën, allantoïne en chemicaliën voor dagelijks gebruik, enz.
